Verona & shopping Noventa di Piave

2 Days 1 Night

Verona is known as the city of Romeo and Juliet. It is one of the most popular cities in Italy, which is not surprising since it is on the UNESCO World Heritage List. The city is located on the banks of the Adige River. Once a famous Roman fortress, today it is a city of opera, theater and art.

Piazza delle Erbe
The beautiful Piazza delle Erbe is located in the heart of Verona's historic center. The magnificent architecture of the square is also the town hall (on the north side), with the imposing Torre dei Lamberti. The richly decorated frescoes painted on the walls of the Mazzanti houses, the Palazzo Maffei completed in Baroque style.

Statues, depicting Greek gods. The oldest part of the square is the fountain. There is also a statue of the Madonna of Verona, which actually dates back to the Roman era. Piazza delle Erbe also has several restaurants and bars scattered around, where you can drink a spritz, which is a real tradition here in Verona.

Juliet's balcony
Hidden a few hundred meters from Piazza delle Erbe, Juliet’s Balcony is the reason most tourists flock to Verona, the city of tragic love stories. Shakespeare actually inspired his famous play by a true story of family rivalry, forbidden love, and feuds, all set in Verona during the 1300s. The Montagues and Capulets were bona fide rival political factions at the time, and you can visit their respective homes.

The love story between Romeo and Juliet has long been popular in Verona, and Shakespeare was just one of many playwrights who jumped into it and expressed themselves. The museum at Juliet’s House (which includes Juliet’s Balcony) features excerpts from various sources and exhibits that help tell the story to visitors. The balcony can be seen without entering the museum.

Arena in Verona
This gigantic piece of Roman architecture is located in the characteristic Piazza della Bra and is truly a must-see, given its size and grandeur. During its heyday (around 130-1100 AD), the arena could hold 30,000 spectators and was one of the largest of its kind in the world.

The games presented here were often so spectacular that Verona attracted large and impressive crowds of visitors from all over the Roman Empire.

Castelvecchio
Situated on what was probably once a Roman fort just outside the city walls, Castelvecchio is a square-plan fortress that was the most powerful military structure in Verona during the Middle Ages. Although not particularly decorative (it was nevertheless designed to be functional), the castle is now home to the Castelvecchio Museum and Gallery. The castle and museum are easily accessible from the city and are perfect for a visit to Verona.

Lamberti Tower
The Torre dei Lamberti is one of the few remaining towers in Verona, each of which would have originally represented the wealth and importance of a particular aristocratic family. This tower was begun in 1171, but was continually built upon, giving it a very distinctive style; the most recent addition is the marble section at the top. These towers helped to organize city life during the Middle Ages, with one bell (the Marangona) ringing to signal the end of the workday or to warn citizens of a fire, and another bell (the Rengo) ringing to summon councils of war.

Economic square - Piazza dei Signori

This square is easily and often overlooked, but it was once very important to the government of the city of Verona, not to mention a finely structured and beautiful square in its own right.

The square is home to a series of tall arches and a monument to Dante, as well as all the main buildings of the former city council, such as the courts and the seat of power of the then ruling Scaligeri family. Well worth a visit (just a few meters from Piazza delle Erbe), this square is both a place of history and beauty.

Castel San Pietro

Walk up the hill behind Ponte Pietra (take the steps next to the Roman theater), towards Castel San Pietro , a mysterious and seemingly abandoned fortress, surrounded by beautiful tree-lined avenues that create a picture-perfect landscape.
