2-day pilgrimage to Medjugorje

2 Days 1 Night

Međugorje is one of the most famous Catholic shrines in the world, located near the town of Čitluk, in the southern part of Bosnia and Herzegovina. It has a population of about 4,300, and became famous through the apparitions of the Virgin Mary, which began to appear as a phenomenon in 1981. Since then, this Herzegovinian town, along with Sarajevo, has been one of our most visited tourist centers, visited annually by about a million Catholics from all over the world. Unlike the Marian shrine in Lourdes, France, which, with six million faithful tourists, has become a true commercial paradise for domestic caterers, the Medjugorje shrine has still retained its original charm, where pilgrims find peace in faith. The gathering center at the Shrine of the Queen of Peace, as the Medjugorje shrine is officially called, is the church of St. James in the center of the town.

APPARENTIONS
The Blessed Virgin Mary, also known as Our Lady of Medjugorje or the Queen of Peace, first appeared on June 24, 1981, in an area called Podbrdo, on the Crnica hill in Medjugorje. She appeared at dusk in the form of a beautiful, young woman with a child in her arms, who, through the six children who saw her, sent messages of peace, faith, love, prayer, conversion and fasting to the world. Every 25th of the month, Our Lady addresses the world through her visionary, Marija Pavlović, publishing her spiritual messages with the same fervor as in 1981. The Vatican has neither acknowledged nor denied these apparitions, because they are still ongoing. Officially, Medjugorje has been accepted by it as a place of prayer. However, pilgrimages organized by dioceses or Catholic associations are not permitted, only privately organized pilgrimages, provided that they are not considered authenticating the events. The Religious Congregation refers to the assessment of the then Bishops’ Conference of Yugoslavia and its session in Zadar, 9-11 April 1991, which determined: “Based on the research so far, it cannot be stated that these are supernatural apparitions and revelations. However, numerous gatherings of believers from various parts who come to Medjugorje motivated by religious and other motives require the attention and pastoral care primarily of the diocesan bishop, and with him of other bishops, so that in Medjugorje, and in connection with it, a healthy devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary is promoted, in accordance with the teachings of the Church. For this purpose, the bishops will issue special appropriate liturgical-pastoral guidelines. Likewise, through their Commissions, they will continue to monitor and investigate the entire event in Medjugorje.” The second “miracle” from Medjugorje is a sculpture that “weeps” in an inexplicable way. Scientists who have studied this phenomenon have come to the conclusion that the chemical composition of the tears from this sculpture is quite similar to human tears.

EXPERIENCES
Pilgrims who visit the Shrine of the Queen of Peace in Medjugorje speak of deep, sincere and personal “experiences” of this phenomenon, such as mental contacts and healings of spiritual injuries and wounds, which can not without reason be explained by the large offer of confessions in almost all the major world languages. Medjugorje also attracts a large number of young Catholics from all over the world, who gather in Herzegovina during the summer for a special annual youth festival.
