Padua
has a history of over three thousand years as a settlement in the Veneto. It was a prominent Roman municipium, Patavium, and the home of the historian Livy. It played a key role in the unification of Italy during a period of great conflict. Padua is located between Venice and Verona in the Veneto region of Italy, surrounded by the Bacchiglione River with urban historic architecture. It has a mild climate with mild winters and warm summers. It is well connected by transport networks, making it an important commercial and cultural center. In its main part, the basilica was completed at the end of the 12th century. The basilica has an imposing Romanesque structure, while the entire apsidal part, slender with nine chapels in a semicircle, belongs to the Gothic style. It is 115 meters long, 55 meters wide at its widest span, and the internal height reaches 38.50 meters; above it rise 8 domes, 2 bell towers and 2 slender turrets; two related bell towers reach a height of 68 meters.
The Scrovegni Chapel in Padua

Giovanni’s frescoes, completed around 1305, cover the walls of the chapel and depict scenes from the lives of the Virgin Mary and Jesus. These depictions are considered some of the most important works of art in the world. The chapel has recently received well-deserved recognition. In 2021, UNESCO included it on its World Heritage List, confirming its exceptional value. It is important for visitors to know that the number of entries is limited. Booking in advance is recommended to secure your viewing time. The ticket costs around EUR 15 per person.
